In 1961 еру chair "Economics, organization and production management" is opened. In 1969 еру chair received a more concrete name "Economics and organization of mining industry" and began training experts of a second qualification - "Mining geologist economist".
Structural transformations in economics of the republic, region, expansion of nomenclature of specialities of economic structure, growth of prestige of receiving an economic education have changed the chair specialization and name. In 1998 the chair was renamed into the chair "Economics of enterprise".
A special attention at the chair is given to the perfection of the educational process, to use of active forms and methods of training, to control students’ knowledge, to independent students\ work.
For non-production specialities of mining, electromechanical, geo-ecological faculties there was formed a complete training-and-methodical complex in the Kazakh and Russian languages. The work in the perfection of training-methodical supply, formation of new special courses on economic problems is regularly conducted within the framework of a higher school component and elective disciplines.
The results of the training-methodical and research work of the chair are realized in numerous publications of the teachers: manuals, methodical recommendations, scientific articles.
The training-methodical base is supplemented by subject auditoriums and a computer class of chairs which are decorated with special posters, stands, demonstration sheets.
In the framework of the «Concepts of continuous computer preparation in the KSTU» at the graduating chairs for all specialities of the University since 1999 a system of continuous computer has been training students which is subdivided into basic and special ones. For special training of the students of senior grades, their fast adaptation in conditions of market economics the following disciplines are of great value: new information technologies in economic systems, automated work place of economist, computer business accounting, network computer technologies, monitoring and modeling of natural resources, planning of enterprise activity.
The scientific-and-pedagogical staff of the chair participated in the research work in mining industry, its joint-stocking and privatization, estimations of investments efficiency, etc. As a result of the research work the employees of the chair published 4 monographies, a significant number of scientific brochures and clauses.
Today the basic directions of scientific researches of the chair are: re-structuring of industry of Kazakhstan and region, complex use of mineral raw materials, estimation of investment projects efficiency, monitoring of financial activity of enterprise.
Today at the chair post graduate study in day time and correspondence forms of training, where the best graduates are trained.
Taking into account the demand of the region for specialities of the economic structure, the chair expands the directions of experts training. They are trained in the following specialities now: "Economics and management at enterprises of mining industry", "Economics (in structure)", "Estimation (in branches and areas of application)", "Economics (bachelor’s program)" of all forms of training (day time complete, correspondence complete, correspondence shortened).
In view of especial needs a speciality "Economics (in structure)" was opened in the branches of the University in the cities of Astana and Balhash.
