In 1958 the chair of political economy and Marxist-Leninist philosophy was formed.
In 1992 the chair of political economy was renamed into the chair of economic theory.
By then the teachers of the chair had worked under the educational programs of disciplines «History of the economic doctrines», «Bases of management», «Bases of marketing», and later they changed conceptually the discipline of political economy so that it incorporated the newest theories of the ÕÕ century.
In 1969 at the chair there appeared a training-methodical cabinet completed with educational and training-methodical sources and everything that is necessary for training of students at practical studies.
Since 1972 the chair has been carrying out scientific researches. In 1972 to 1995 at the chair a research laboratory worked. The themes of scientific-research works of the laboratory were financed by the Ministry of coal industry of the USSR and The Main management of wages and social problems of the USSR. Scientific results of the researches of the chair members were realized in 8 monographies, 3 textbooks in the Kazakh language for technical higher schools, 55 brochures.
Scientific researches of the chair are developed in the directions: use of basic production, assets efficiency; efficiency of international freight traffic; efficiency of use enterprises manpower (in branch aspect); economic growth and intensification of public manufacture (on example of economics of Kazakhstan); structural shifts and use of accumulation fund in Kazakhstan; formation and use of national income.
Today at the chair there work six scientific circles where there are more than fifty students.
The years of reorganization of the economic system have caused basic changes in contents of economic disciplines and, first of all, of economic theory. To support the educational process with the methodical manuals, instructions and recommendations the teachers of the chair actively work at the training-and-methodical maintenance of the teaching courses, creation of the training-methodical complex, scientific work. A special value is given to publishing of methodical literature in the Kazakh language.
In 1996-2001 textbooks and manuals of «Economic theory» (in Kazakh and Russian languages), «Bases of business» and «Marketing» (in Kazakh language), «Bases of management»(in the Kazakh language)were issued , manual of «Bases of business» (in Kazakh language) for students of engineering specialities is prepared for edition. Since 1996 chair uses test form of control and estimation of knowledge.
Collective of chair persistently is engaged in updating of training-methodical material, search of effective technologies of training. Members of chair take part in maintenance of plan humanitarization of technical education, in public measures of regional and republican levels, are involved as the opponents of candidate and doctor's dissertations on economic sciences.
