  Geo-ecological faculty
The faculty was formed in 1995 in the new economic conditions on the basis of three graduating and one general educational chairs (of industrial ecology, geophysics, geology and physics).
Objective preconditions of the faculty forming were as follows: a large volume of prospecting operations in large oil and gas perspective regions of Kazakhstan, increase of volumes of search and prospecting operations of solid mineral resources, shortage of engineers on geophysical methods of research of wells, as no higher school of Kazakhstan trained experts in these specialities. In the republic there were no ecologists, geologists, experts in labour protection and ergonomics.
The geo-ecological faculty has played an important part in perfection of the structure of training-and-pedagogical process in all the divisions of the university. The teachers and employees of the faculty have raised research and inventive activity to a new degree, have made an important contribution to the analysis of geo-ecological aspects of Central Kazakhstan and other regions of the republic. The faculty raised the importance of such sciences, as ecology, geology, geophysics, labour protection, physics and chemistry on a new height, has replenished and continue to replenish the consumer market with new specialities, have essentially added with the use of MASS-MEDIA available reserve for the popularization of the achievements of the KSTU in the field of science and engineering, economics, mining, mechanical engineering, transport, power, construction, ecology and labour protection.
At the faculty there are 90 men of professorial-teaching structure, including 5 doctors of sciences, professors, 30 candidates of sciences, among them 2 professors, 28 senior lecturers and 55 senior teachers, teachers and assistants.
The educational complex of the faculty includes five chairs: geophysics and geology; industrial ecology and chemistry; mining aerology and protection of labour activity; physics; Russian and foreign languages.
There are taught the following specialities at the faculty: “Safety of labour activity and ability to live » - bachelor’s degree, «Applied ecology», «Engineering protection of environment», «Protection in extreme situations», «Geologic survey, searches and prospecting», «Geophysical methods of searches and prospecting», «Physical methods both devices of control and analysis of substances and products», «Concentration of mineral resources».
The students’ training is based on their fundamental studying of physical and mathematical, information and special disciplines. The educational plans are focused on deepening of general theoretical and experimental physical and mathematical training. A lot of attention is given to training-methodical activity, including preparation of publication both of textbooks and manuals in the Kazakh language. Since 2000, all fund of visual manuals, laboratory stands, installations, devices and equipment has been updated, preparation of training-methodical complexes on each educational discipline is conducted. For 4-5 year grades rating-test and module-unitized system are introduced into educational process. All the chairs are equipped with computer classes conforming equipment and software.
A special place in the activity of the faculty and all of its divisions is occupied by scientific researches and technical creativity. The graduating chairs regularly sign conforming contracts with enterprises and get students to take a part in their operation.
During all the period of its activity the faculty staff published more than two thousand issues, wrote more than five hundred reports on economy-contract and state budget subjects, more than 80 invention patents of the Republic of Kazakhstan were received.
