The key role in working out and using new information technologies is played by the Computer technologies and telecommunications Centre (CTTC) formed in 1996 on the base of the Regional information-computing centre of the KazSSR Ministry of higher education. A considerable contribution into the centre development was made by A.A.Makhov, a Graduate of the KSTU, the first CTTC director. Under his leadership there was carried out a number of project works connected with working out and introducing automated systems of the teaching process control.

CIT conducts work in different directions. It includes working out and introducing the local network Intranet with entering Internet, a University site forming, automate systems of the teaching process using, dispatching of the teaching process. In the Centre there are computer classes, Internet-class with a free access for the students and teachers.

In 2001 in the KSTU in the structure of the Centre there was formed a laboratory of satellite and digital television, which widens considerably the possibilities of interaction between the students and the teachers. A special role is played by computer conferences, which permit all the participants of the discussion to exchange written messages in asynchronous regime.

The computer communications allow to use actively such methods of teaching as debates, modeling, role plays, brain attacks, Delphi-methods, forums, etc. A great attention at the University is paid to new teaching technologies, estimation quality system forming.

The teaching-and-methodic department together with the information technologies faculty worked out Regulations about testing-and-rating system of teaching and control, permitting to introduce it at all the faculties and courses of the KSTU.

The teaching process organization in the testing-and-rating, block-and-module systems is presented by the elements of the subjects complex, so-called blocks, cycles or modules, which understanding needs the knowledge of the theoretical material and practical skills.

The rating system use in the teaching process allows:
-to increase the efficiency of students’ independent work and to provide its rhythm during the term
-to range students according to the level of their knowledge and to define the further teaching way
-to increase the efficiency of teachers’ work.

In all specialties there are used modern forms of teaching and control on the base of computer technologies: automated teaching systems, knowledge control systems, virtual laboratory and practical works, permitting to learn the work of machines, devices and mechanisms including emergency ones; to analyze sequences of wrong actions without stopping complicated and expensive technical means; to realize multi-variant design taking into account real conditions of use; to teach skills and techniques of maintenance and repair, etc.
